Top 5 - Most well known 'real' Werewolves

Please be advised, visual gory information below - read at your own discretion.

 4 - Frenchmen Pierre & 5 - Michel Verdan

Frenchmen Pierre Burgot and Michel Verdan - Both of these men are some of the more well-known reallife cases of werewolves in the 1500's. They both  swore that they had an ointment that could turn them into werewolves. Under the impression that their impression was true, they tried to used these statements to justify there many murders of young children. After admitting to their wrongdoings they were both burned at the stake because that is how they assumed you'd kill werewolves in the 1500's.

3 - Giles Garnier

Giles Garnier was known as one of the most vicious 'real' werewolves due to the fact that he was not only a serial killer, but also an cannibal. He was convicted of being a werewolf in France during the 16th century when he was caught at the scene of his murder while trying to claw at the children. The wounds made it near impossible to recognize the victims, but they were alive until later passing away from her injuries. There were many cases that he admitted to where he stated how he attacked the children, dragged them and made it possible to tear pieces apart. He was later convicted of those murders and also burned at the stake for his wrongdoings.

2 - Peter Stubbe

Peter Stubbe can better be known as the Bedburg Werewolf as a wealthy framer in Germany. He was one of the first real life werewolves where people claimed to actually see him shape shift from his human form into his werewolf form. Contrary to Burgot and Verdan, Stubbe stated that there was this magical belt that was doing all of the shifting for him. He said that whenever he would have the belt on it would make him do all of those mass murders and animal, children, men and women, alongside with consuming their remains. However, similarly to the rest of them, Peter suffered the same death as them, burning at the stake.

1 - Jean Grenier

Jean Grenier will probably take the cake for being the most gruesome real-life werewolf due to the amount of stories people have shared about him. His story is based in a forest in which he is given a magic wolf skin with ointment, similar to Burgot and Verdan that gave him the ability to turn. He is known as the werewolf that has consumed the most children, and that number is only based off of stories so we may never know the actually number consumed. Below I have provided an image with a little bit more of his story.

Before doing my research about these top five I had no idea that there were so many more accounts and stories of 'real' werewolves in the earlier years. I also see the huge difference in what the media puts out about werewolves now which can be more romanticized and soft, compared to the folklore of these werewolves stories.
